Adventures in Second Life

Posted on August 14, 2007

Over the weekend, hubs came across an article on Second Life and kept on going. One thing about the mister is that he never just dives into anything. It can be a good thing. So for two days he read articles, blogs, watched clips & movies on youtube getting all the information he could. He said he wouldn’t bother with Second Life unless I went with him. So I did. Last night we both set up accounts and created our avatars on SL.

Me & Hubs in SL...

This screenshot is us in a place where everything’s free – figured we’d need to outfit our avatars somehow since we’re not paying to play.

One thing we both noticed is that just about everyone insists on being extraordinarily tall and thin. Neither of us care that much so we made our avatars our real heights and reflected a bit more of our real physiques. Sure, we shaved of several pounds, but who can resist?

When hubs first logged into Second Life, “Orientation Island” wouldn’t give him the tutorial prompts at all, although he could do most of the activities. I could do most of them when I logged on, but I lost one of the puzzle pieces that come from doing the activities. Figure there are some glitches – I heard there were some grid problems so that may have caused some of the issues we saw.

Another thing I learned is that the WORST time to play SL is at 2am EST. Especially in a spot that offers free stuff…

I think SL will be a nice diversion from time to time. Neither of us have the energy to devote to SL that some people do, but it looks like fun.
