This time I’ve moved my ARRRT! site from finearrrt.com to imakearrrt.com. I’ll end up forwarding the former to the latter but I’ll keep it all up for now.
I gravitate towards being a couch potato, although I’ve become more doughy than potato-y the past few years. I know I need to move my arse, but I hate exercise. The thought of staring off into space on an elliptical machine does not turn me on. Walking? Eh… only if I have company. Aerobics is ridiculous, and spinning classes and the like are just pure torture.
As a teen I trained at a Tae Kwon Do school in Daytona Beach for several years and I earned my black belt in my senior year. I was there every single night of the week practicing, training and even teaching. Even then nothing held my attention like martial arts, so I decided to have another go at it.
I signed up for a 2-week trial at the Shaolin Center and so far I’m really getting into it. Of the two programs they have, I’ve decided, on the advice of a friend & my TKD-destroyed joints, I’m doing their Internal program which focuses on things like Taiji (Tai Chi), QuiGong and Yi Jin Jing (I Chin Ching).
Right now as a beginner I’m learning the Yang Tai Chi Long Form which has 64 movements. I know about 8 of them, and it’ll take me more than 6 months to just learn the movements and probably a lifetime to perform it properly. Last Thursday during the open Kwoon (dojo/gym whatever you want to call it) I think I did the first few movements of that form 30 times. I may be crazy but I love it.
